Similar to the combat engine as seen in Darksun you move your unit around (though in real time and turn based) and depending on who you control you can use different kind of attacks.

The actual game is quite easy to get started with since you simply move your units towards the enemy units and when two units meet the battle starts. You can also choose from several different battles all offering their own start of the battle. You start the game by either using the quick start function or setting up a game yourself. And the units you control could be taking from a game like Darksun. The game is so much different than any of their other roleplay and strategy games (Fantasy Empires does look a bit familiar with some of the game sequences). Fight underground monsters and bosses as you learn more and the secrets of the world.Dark Legions might be published by SSI but it's obvious that they didn't produce this game themselves. Halite is the single most significant resource in the dimension, only thanks to this element it is possible to pump equipment and improve abilities. You are only able to carry 2 guns at a time, although the total arsenal includes more than 15 original weapons. Many weapons overheat, which is why they cannot be used for a certain amount of time. Gradually, you come across individual bonuses that increase the effectiveness of weapons, and some of them are given by magical skills. Use your fists, grenades, or shoot out opponents as you travel through the kingdoms of Niflheim and defeat the legions of Prime. Upgrade each weapon, helping the good fight the Prime.

Each playthrough is different from the previous one, as maps, opponents, equipment, and more are created randomly. Lucky's benevolent guide helps you escape from mysterious caves and navigate the dark abysses of Niflhel.

The main character is Gunnhildr, who fights against the dark legions. As you progress, you will learn more information about old Niflheim in between slaughterhouses. Collect halite crystals from dead rivals, and through them restore energy shields, buy consumables and items for survival, or acquire new weapons. Travel the sci-fi world of Niflheim in Gunnhildr, fighting your way through procedurally generated locations, using futuristic weapons and otherworldly modifications.
